Hi, I’m Merlyn, the Founder and Director of Breaking Barriers Together .

I founded Breaking Barriers Together with one clear belief: quality support should feel personal, consistent, and empowering — not transactional.

After years of supporting individuals and families, I saw how meaningful care goes far beyond tasks. It’s about trust. It’s about dignity. It’s about creating an environment where people feel safe, respected, and confident to live life on their own terms.

Breaking Barriers Together was built to offer a more personalised alternative to large, rotating providers. Here, participants are supported by familiar faces who understand their goals, preferences, and strengths. We focus on practical skill-building, genuine connection, and community participation — always tailored to the individual.

I remain actively involved in day-to-day support because I believe leadership should be hands-on. My role isn’t just to oversee services — it’s to walk alongside participants, helping build independence while ensuring every interaction is grounded in professionalism and care.

At the heart of our service is a simple commitment: to meet people where they are, support their growth, and create moments of confidence, joy, and belonging along the way.
